Head of horse, atlas

Noel Hayes purchased Atlas at the Goffs Horses In Training sale of October 2016 and took the immediate decision to give him a break with a view towards the 2017 campaign.

At that point Atlas was a 9 time raced maiden who was starting to look a little regressive having dropped from an opening handicap of 79 down to a 67.

On that basis, the price tag of €30,000 looked a little pricey but we saw something in the horse both physically and in his racing that gave him the hope and the encouragement to buy the horse on spec and send him to Denis Hogan.

In the following weeks Atlas began
his winter holidays, he was syndicated in
6 equal shares to new members of The
Sunday Racing Club

2017 was a year of learning but also a year of of success with 2 wins and several places which gives us great hope as we progress to 2018 with a rating of 82 on the flat and 96 over hurdles. It seems that the horse requires good ground a solid gallop and the objective for 2018 is to find him to be competitive in some of the best Premier Flat Handicaps.

Update: May 15th 2018. Atlas returned to action in Dundalk with a solid 4th despite meeting with interference. From there he set sail for a valuable handicap in Chelmsford where he was ultimately disappointing. The jury is out but perhaps the surface wasn’t to his liking. On his 3rd start of the year Atlas ran moderately in Leopardstown. Following that run we have taken a decision to give him a couple of weeks at grass with the sun on his back with a view to getting him back on track in mid July.
